This initiative marks a significant step forward in our mission to revolutionise waste management practices and contribute to a sustainable future!
The Food-2050 Aerobic Composter: Revolutionising Waste Management
A highlight to our partnership is the introduction of the Food-2050 aerobic composter. This cutting-edge technology allows us to divert all food waste from landfills and transform it into a valuable resource—a rich soil conditioner. Unlike traditional landfill disposal methods that contribute to methane emissions, our composter enables us to mitigate greenhouse gases significantly. By converting 1 ton of food waste into 200kg of nutrient-rich soil conditioner, we not only reduce CO2 emissions by 1.5 tons but also contribute directly to the circular economy of food waste, while providing the best possible additive to any compost.
Environmental Impact and Sustainability Goals
Through this collaboration, we are proud to align with South Africa's national goals of restricting any food waste from landfill sites by the year 2027. With a reduction of 80-85% of food waste to composting soil, we are actively reducing harmful methane emissions while also promoting sustainable waste management practices.
Milestones and Progress
The Food-2050 composter is an addition to our current food waste diversion composting programme, which includes open air composting windrows.
Since the launch of our food waste programme, Jumper Waste Management has seen remarkable growth in food waste collection. From collecting 200kg of food waste per week in August 2023, we have scaled up to managing 1000kg per week to date. This increase not only shows the effectiveness of our operations, but also highlights the growing commitment from our partners and community towards sustainable waste management solutions.
